Therapeutic Transport Process
The following scenario is meant to
provide some insight into what a typical adolescent
therapeutic transport is like. It is important to remember that our adolescent
transports are conducted by agents who understand and value the
tremendous responsibility that the parents
have placed upon them. We realize that we are dealing with your most valuable possession, your
child. Our agents will treat your child as their own.
Typically, our agents will arrive at
your residence in the early morning hours. We will greet you at your
front door and we will introduce ourselves to you. We will answer
any of your last minute questions and go over the procedure once
again. Understanding that this is a very difficult event
for you, we
want to ensure that you are as comfortable as possible throughout
this ordeal.
Our agents will accompany you to your
child’s bedroom. We ask that you awaken your child and inform him/
her about your decision. At this point we would like you to
introduce our agents to
your child and explain that you have asked
our agents to assist you in bringing your child to
their destination. At this time, after saying goodbye and reassuring them
of your love, we ask the parents to leave the room and if possible,
to leave the residence. This is a difficult situation where, as you can expect, your child may become agitated towards your decision to
send him / her away. It is also at this point where a transition
of authority takes place.
We will sit your child down and
explain exactly what is happening, answer any of his/her questions
and reiterate how difficult of a decision this was for his/ her
parents to make. We will explain that this decision was made because
of the love that you have for your child. We will give your child
time to dress and gather some comfort items to bring along (books,
music devices, etc.) After a short period of time, we will depart to
our vehicle, which will be parked out front.
Communication is a very important part
of this process. Our agents will talk to your child
throughout the
process, offering reassurance and always answering any questions
they might have. We will advise them of general information about
the school or program to which they are going.
Our agents will call you regularly
throughout this process and provide updates. Our first call will
be made shortly after departing your residence, and again periodically.
We need to keep you informed.
Upon arrival at the final destination,
we will brief the program staff about the transport process,
offer your child our best wishes and say goodbye. We have received hugs
and thanks from many children in the past. We will call you for
the final time; provide a final update and thank you for trusting us during this difficult situation.
